A Great Post About Dogma

http://fratervl.blogspot.com/2014/01/dogma.html

Just found this post on Frater VL’s blog about Dogma.

Interesting.  I want to disagree with Frater VL because this “dogma” is how I know and understand these entities.   But, alas, I think he is correct…

What do you think?  Check it out.

Is Atheism a Spirituality?

Well, I am sure my opinion will draw ire from a lot of people.  This is not the intent.

I personally feel  I am in a position with my beliefs that the religious faithful consider me an atheist and the atheist consider me a religious faithful.  In my endeavor to understand this I see a big difference in being religious and being spiritual.  I see similarities if not the same attributes of spirituality and religions within atheism.  This is what leads me to answer the question in the title of this blog post with a resounding YES.

Yes, atheism is not only a belief but a spirituality and to some almost religious.  Sacrilege!  I can here the towns folk gathering their pitchforks and lighting their torches!

Now you might question the definition of atheist or atheism that I am basing my opinion on.  You know, dictionary meaning verses what I have seen in my short life.  So here is how I am defining “Atheism”.

Atheism is an absence of belief in a person/creator/god and their holy books claiming they created ALL and those that accept this deities holy book a good afterlife awaits and a bad afterlife for those that don’t.  Scientific fact is their proof of what they do believe.  Contrary to the religious faithful’s assumption that no belief in god = no morals, atheist seem to have a very HIGH regard for human life.

The interesting thing about my definition of an atheist is that it does not truly fit all atheist because we are all individual and life is subjective.  This is one of the attributes that atheism shares with spirituality and religion.

Science I do consider a religion.  It’s adherents I would call “materialist fundamentalists”  which can be gathered from all types of atheism, spirituality and religions.  That term “materialist fundamentalist” comes from author Robert Anton Wilson in “The New Inquisition: Irrational Rationalism and the Citadel of Science”.

I have met some Atheist that say they have no belief, however no belief is still a belief.

Look at blogs and forums where atheist and the faithful post.  Many of the post I find share the same obstinate behavior and ridicule towards the religious faithful that the religious faithful dish out upon the atheists.  (Did I hear someone say “eye for an eye”.  Exodus 21:24, Leviticus 24:20, Deuteronomy 19:21)

Besides the above similarities, which don’t really indicate a spirituality, there was still something else more meaningful that was missing that makes me feel atheism is a spirituality.  I could not put my finger on it let alone put it into any kind of words till one morning about 2 weeks ago.

One morning I was sitting at my computer like I am now, I had a feeling of fear and frustration come over me, but it was not my own fears and frustrations.  This caused me to think that I might have just felt something from a global consciousness.  So I went to my favorite site regarding this subject, The Global Consciousness Project.  While clicking around their website I found a quote from  Albert Schweitzer.

Ethics is nothing other than Reverence for Life.

This sentence hit me!  It is so simple.  How did I ever miss this?  This line of thinking turns out to be a missing piece in my path.

Now for the whole quote:

Ethics is nothing other than Reverence for Life. Reverence for Life affords me my fundamental principle of morality, namely, that good consists in maintaining, assisting and enhancing life, and to destroy, to harm or to hinder life is evil. — Albert Schweitzer

This is why I believe atheism is a spirituality, it is their reverence for life.

What I find odd is that the religious that makes claims for their reverence for life because of their god’s holy book don’t always display this reverence.  It is easily ignored if they can justify destruction, harm or hindrance of life because their god told them so in it’s holy book.  The atheist however, on their own accord, can display reverence for life….because it is just the right thing to do as a human.

If this life is all there is, why not make it an enjoyable life for all?  If nothing really matters then whats wrong with making it so?

Now, should I click the “Publish” button or not?

Hiding in plain sight

I was thinking about this the last few days.  Why do most people that blog about magick (including myself) hide who they are? Are we embarrassed about our beliefs?

Being a conspiracy theorist I already understand the ridicule we receive for our beliefs.  Coming from a certain type of Christianity I fully understand why one would want to hide.

Then I find this blog:  Personal Inquisition?

The Inquisition is not over, it is just handled differently.  Ostracizing is now done by family, friends, employers and co-workers.  No longer burned at the stake or tortured to death.  No, nothing that quick.  Now it is mental.  It is mean, insidious and just plain mentally cruel.

One of the 4 pillars of Franz Bardon’s Solomons’ Temple (knowledge, courage, volition, and silence) comes to mind:  Silence!

What I find funny is that I am surrounded by Christians of various faiths and Materialist Fundamentalists (scientific atheist/agnostic types).  When the Christians find out how much I detest religion they get really concerned for my life and want to change me or not be my friend.  They automatically think I am an atheist.  When I say  I am not religious but spiritual and I do believe in “God” they calm down and every thing is cool.  When the Materialist Fundamentalist find out I am spiritual and believe in “God” they try to convince me that I am fooling myself and am a complete religious idiot.  When I explain what my feelings are on the God subject, they calm down.  I don’t dare go any further!

I think it sucks that in this day, at least in America, we are “free” to be as we are as long as we do not hurt others, but …. I can’t.  I have to hide in plain site.

I hope you enjoyed Frater VL’s post.

A Picture with Many Meanings

saturnearth

I can’t stop looking at this picture.  The little blue dot is earth.  This isn’t even taken from outside our solar system…and we look so small and even … alone.

When I look at this picture I think about my faithful religious days and how this would strengthen my faith…”Look how small and yet God and Jesus care so much for us”.

Now, besides the wondrous beauty of this picture, I say “Really?  I think my personal problems are so great…but, Really?  Are they?”  Just how small are my problems?  This actually makes me smile and see my problems in a different light and importance.

I could see an atheist or a materialist fundamentalist say “look how small we really are in the universe and millions actually think their God would make so much a fuss over us?”

This picture puts humanity into an interesting perspective.  Our size and place in the universe.  That is OUR HOME we are looking at.  Far as I can tell, we are stuck here.  Why so much hate for one another?  Why misuse our resources and pollute our ONLY home?

If you think about it, most of our hate comes from inherent and subjective differences.  These are things we should not hate each other for.  Religious, governmental and business entities in our society have been allowed so much power over humanity that we are kept at odds with each other over “boarders” if you will.  Physical and metal boarders of location, religion, spirituality or lack of, color, creed, social status, wealth, health, age, education, sex, sexual preference, height, weight, skill, likes and dislikes, etc.  This list goes on and on and on.  I am on one side, you on the other and for some reason we have been condition to hate each other for something that is natural.  It is time for humanity to recognize this and begin to change.  Letting go of something that has been ingrained into us for centuries…I am trying.  I still find it creeping into my life, but this is the way the system works.

Pollution.  Whether you believe in the global warming stuff or not, fact is, we have pollution that we are causing.  I personally see this as an indication that we are not using our resources wisely.  It seems as long as someone or some corporation needs to “profit”, I don’t see us fixing our pollution problem very soon.  Unfortunately it seems the best we can do is to work with what we have been allowed with in our own finances.

See that little blue dot in the picture?  Where else are we going to go?  Lets start getting along with each other and lets start using our resources wisely.

I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I do.

The Bible, A Book Of Shadows

What I am proposing is merely a theory based upon my current studies.

Book of Shadows – is a book containing religious texts and instructions for magical rituals

Grimoire – is a textbook of magic

I know what many would say to me for saying such blasphemy about the Bible.  The more I learn, the more I see connections to the arcane, occult mysteries in everyday life, even in what I once believed to be the last place for this, the Bible.  While this may not be new to some of you, as I have mentioned here already, I am playing catch up right now.

The Bible is made up of many books.  A group of men decided to put these books together into one book, the Bible.  Many books were left out because they just did not jive with the rest.  If you read even just bits of the left out books, they can completely take away the control the Bible gives to the church.  No wonder they were left out.  There are even books that were cleverly added too to make them not only fit but shows a “change” in thinking supposedly by the author.

How could I call the Bible a book of magic when the Bible CLEARLY steers you AWAY from that “satanic” stuff?  It does this for a very good reason.  If you studied that “satanic” stuff you would see for yourself what the Bible is.  Those that use the Bible for control would become powerless.

Even though the Bible has spawned MANY versions of Christianity, it is still a cleverly written system of magic that goes to great effort to not appear as such.  When practiced each lodge….I mean church or congregation that uses this book creates for itself an egregore.  This is basically a group thought form that gives its members some help with its power.  It is constantly prayed to and thought of each day which keeps it alive.  When you leave its influence you experience a feeling like God has directly lifted his holy spirit from you and you will notice things just don’t go as well as when you worshiped this egregore.   When you visit a different lodge….I mean congregation within the same version of Christianity you will feel a difference in “personality” between congregations.  This difference is because each congregations egregore or group thought is made up from many different worshipers.  It is a collection or a averaging of differing personalities and beliefs that come together as one through the worship within the congregation.

This egregore is from the worship of God, Jehovah and his son Jesus.  Some Christians take a more pagan approach and combine Jehovah God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit into a trinity or triune god.  But there is another!

Who else gets thought of from the Bible?  I believe this other one is also found in the holy books of Islam and Judaism.  Just whom might this other be?

Yep, you guessed it…………….. It is ……… Satan the Devil!

The version of Christianity that I was brain washed with……..oh, sorry……….raised with, taught us to just have faith in God, Jehovah and his son Jesus.  However, when it came to Satan the Devil we were taught to BELIEVE he is real.  The reality of Satan was constantly put upon us through the study of the Bible, the study aids and the sermons we would listen at each church meeting.  The Bible stories I listened to as a child constantly reinforced the reality of Satan.  I could see the machinations of the Devil every waking moment and He even invaded my dreams while I slept.  Satan the Devil was more real to me than the others.

From what I have seen and heard from other versions of Christianity, it would appear to be similar to my up bringing and “spiritual” maintenance.  I know even less about Judaism and Islam but what I have read so far about those religions it seems very similar too.

Can you see where I am going with this?  The Holy Books of these 3 major religions help each lodge…..I mean congregation to create for itself an egregore.  But when it comes to the belief in Satan the Devil, the similarities of belief bring in the collective thinking of 3 major religions and their BILLIONS of adherents, a group consciousness, for the creation of the largest egregore …. Satan the Devil!

Literally BILLIONS of people, every day and every night, 24 7, empower this egregore.  They empower Satan with such similar thoughts that it focuses that energy into this one entity.  Look around you.  Listen to the news.  You see his influence literally everywhere.  If you don’t believe in magic, you should.  You see it in action every single day!

Just how many people?  This is taken from the numbers at this web site:  Major Religions of the World Ranked by Number of Adherents

  • Christianity – 2.1 billion people
  • Islam – 1.5 billion people
  • Judaism – 14 million
  • TOTAL – 3, 614,000,000 People!!!

3, 614,000,000 People empower the great egregore, Satan the Devil, 24/7!  It is no wonder the world seems like such a bad place full of evil.  The varied beliefs in God has minimized his power by diluting God into many less powerful Gods.  I think there is enough similarity in beliefs of Satan the Devil that this has resulted in one large, very powerful egregore.  You can thank those 3 major religions for this entity and all the bad they have evoked or created for our world.

What other magic does the Bible contain?

The Bible has spawned many rituals that differ between the many Christian religions.  They way people pray, the way their gatherings are handled, the singing, the holiday celebrations, the Eucharist, wedding ceremonies, snake handling, etc.  These are all rituals to evoke, invoke, cause change to the physical world and more.  They just refrain from calling this magic.

So as the Christian smugly asserts that magic is from, of and worshiping Satan the Devil…they are totally blind to what they are actually doing…practicing Christian Magic and Mysticism.  Which reminds me of a scripture…

Luke 6:42 (KJ21)
42 Or how canst thou say to thy brother, ‘Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye,’ when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite! Cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

Mysticism or Magic

I found a very interesting post regarding the difference between mysticism and magic at the Golden Dawn blog.

Mystical and Magical Orders of the Golden Dawn

Even read the comments.

What I find rather interesting as I read through it (the comments touch on it too) is that religion, Christianity and Islam came to mind first, do everything to point there finger and demonize mysticism and magic.  Meanwhile, they are practicing …….. mysticism.

I hope you enjoy it.

The Wands of Hevorice

This is an idea I was playing with earlier this year.  Not perfect, but fun..fun for me 🙂

The Wands of Hevorice
By Frater Ajaashb
January 8, 2012

To the Goddess Vesta thanks and praise
From the lost, the forgotten, the discarded, the ignored
Behold the Wands of Hevorice
Come forth thrice the sisters, from humbleness, come forth

Commissioned by her love, the hearth fires warm
To the East, to the South, to the West, to the North
Born in the 3 kingdoms, together the fourth
Good fortune to all, in praise of the All, may this triune form

Formed and consecrated in the Kingdom of the East
By the winds of the Sylphs Anila was born
With Raphael’s command, “Help all with knowledge”
This be your course

Formed and consecrated in the Kingdom of the South
By the Salamander’s fire Seraphine was born
With Michael’s command, “Help all with volition”
This be your course

Formed and consecrated in the Kingdom of the West
By the Undine’s waters Undina was born
With Gabriel’s command, “Help all with courage”
This be your course

Seraphina, Undina, Anila, together Gaia the forth
They reside with the Gnomes in the Kingdom of the North
By Uriel’s command their silence is their course

To whom who wields the sisters three
This is the Law bound to thee
“Love All, Harm None, Do Onto Others That Which You Wish In Return”
“Do What Thou Wilt, Blessed Be”.

A Small Problem With Wiki

Well, I do enjoy reading DONALD MICHAEL KRAIG‘s Blog at Llewellyn Worldwide.  This time he is pointing out something I and many others are guilty of…Using Wikipedia as a source for information.

What is wrong with that you might say?

WIKIPEDIA MAKES NO GUARANTEE OF VALIDITY, that’s what is wrong!  Check out Mr. Kraig’s post “Wikipedia’s Dirty Little Secret“.  Because “Wikipedia is an online open-content collaborative encyclopedia”, it is put together, added to, modified and edited by anyone with an internet connection with out a formal peer review, inaccurate information can easily be put in place whether on purpose or accident.  Just how many of us really have the time to at least use the source info on the bottom of the page to confirm the validity of what we are reading?  After all this is why we are looking at Wikipedia!  So we don’t have to confirm that since it appears to already have been done!

Because of user input such as this, Mr. Kraig has pointed out, someone is using this to get pages dealing with pagan subjects deleted!  Besides possible inaccurate information now we can erase people and subjects out of existance?  This kind of behavior reminds me of the societies through out time that felt it best to destroy the history of the occupiers before them.  We see this going on today in the Middle East.  But now I digress.

To sum this up, be careful with what and whom your source of information is.

Belief

I found an interesting blog post about Belief by DONALD MICHAEL KRAIG.

Check it out:  I Wouldn’t Have Seen It If I Hadn’t Believed It

He quotes from several people.  The quotes I think say so much.  Here is the quotes to ponder:

The materialist fundamentalists are funnier than the Christian fundamentalists, because they think they’re rational! …They’re never skeptical about anything except the things they have a prejudice against. None of them ever says anything skeptical about the AMA, or about anything in establishment science or any entrenched dogma. They’re only skeptical about new ideas that frighten them. –  Robert Anton Wilson

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapt in awe, is as good as dead.—Albert Einstein

Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.—Henry Ford

People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.—George Bernard Shaw

This applies to many areas of our lives.  Donald M. Kraig also give an interesting mental exercise to shelve or remove the doubt and disbelief.  While the blog is about magick, this exercise is pretty nondenominational and open to all regardless of your spirituality.

Enjoy!

Hello Everyone

This site layout is under construction.  I am figuring out WordPress and how I want things positioned in the overall layout.  Once I get that done this site will be a work in progress as I fill in the content.

Much of the content I have filed away in notes.  I will be trying to make these notes readable and presentable.  Please check back occasionally.  I will be adding new things and adjusting the old.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and see what it going on here!
